Essential oils can be very useful in coping
with some of the problems we face in the summer.
Traveling can be a stressful time -- especially if you suffer from motion
sickness or anxiety about transportation, accommodations, or constant
changes in routine. Let essential oils help you reduce your tension,
settle your stomach and enhance your enjoyment of the trip. They can be
easily incorporated into your travel plans. Well before you leave,
experiment to find out which essential oils are most effective for you --
which will help calm your nerves, or lift your spirits, for example. Then
select a small variety to take along.
When I travel I always
carry peppermint for headaches, fatigue & motion sickness. For motion
sickness I put a drop on my tongue. For headache or fatigue I put a couple
of drops on the back of my temples & the back of my neck, then in my hands
& inhale.
I love to put a couple
drops of peppermint in water and drink it when I am tired. Peppermint is a
wonderful energizer. It is my number one, never leave home without it,
oil.
Another oil I always
have with me when traveling is clove. I rub it on my feet to protect
against athletes foot when I am staying in a hotel. I hate to walk
barefoot in a hotel room, but if you take a shower, it is hard to avoid.
Just anoint your feet with clove oil. After you rub it on your feet, you
will want to dilute any residue of the oil that is on your hands with a
carrier oil. Clove is one of the "hot" oils. If you have some on your
hands & touch your face, it will burn.
I keep Valor in case my
back bothers me after sleeping in a bed I'm not used to. Valor has been
called, "chiropractor in a bottle." I use it regularly & I'm always
amazed. Rub Valor on the bottom of your feet on the reflex points for the
spine.
Summer is a time for
being outside exposed to the sun, bugs & poison ivy. I usually get a very
bad case of poison ivy if I get exposed to it. I have had great success
using lavender or Purification when I have been in poison ivy.
Purification is good to use as an insect repellent. If you forgot to put
the insect repellent on & got bit by an insect, use Purification on the
insect bite.
An oil blend I really
love is Young Living's En-R-Gee. I put it on the bottom of my feet,
emphasizing the big toe area. It does what it sounds like: gives you
ENERGY.
To help avoid sunburn,
remember that citrus oils can make skin sensitive to ultraviolet light. As
a precaution, avoid the use of citrus oils when exposed to direct sun
light.

Poison Ivy/Bug Bite
Remedy
Some of you may be more
annoyed with poison ivy and insect bites. Try this blend to relieve skin
irritation and itching:
5 drops lavender
3 drops Roman chamomile
1 drop geranium
Combine three drops of
this blend with one teaspoon of a carrier oil and apply externally as
needed.
Insect Repellent
Lemongrass 10 drops
Lavender 8 drops
Peppermint 4 drops
Thyme 2 drops
Add to 1 oz of carrier
oil of your choice, (Young Living's V-6 or Massage Oil Base)
*** Or add the oils to
Young Living Essential Water (formerly called floral waters) for a less
greasy spray on blend. I add the above oils to peppermint or lavender
Essential Water. Be sure and shake it up before spraying it on. Apply to
the exposed skin several times while out in the wild or on the beach.
For a really simple
insect repellent that works well, just add 10 drops of peppermint to a 4
oz. bottle of Young Living's Peppermint Essential Water. I have been using
this lately while working in the garden to keep the biting Deer Flies off
me. I have had no bites while using this simple formula. Be careful not to
get any near your eyes.
My favorite oils to
repel bugs around the house are peppermint and lemongrass. I make up a
spray bottle of peppermint, using 15 drops per ounce of water (use a dark-
colored glass bottle). Whenever I see ants in my kitchen I can just spray
this and they scurry away. An other thing I have done is to apply
peppermint to cotton balls and put it where they come in. Mosquitoes and
flies really dislike lemongrass.
Young Living makes a
wonderful oil blend called Purification, that I use in a mister also for
bugs and for cleaning and purifying the air..
Try spraying insect
repellent blends on your screens to keep the tiny bugs that come in after
dark away.
Using Oils for Poison Ivy & Motion
Sickness
"I used to have a
terrible problem with poison ivy. It would start out with one dot then no
matter what I did, it spread until it was a huge oozing blister. Now, as
soon as I have one dot of itch, I dab Melrose on it until it is gone ,
which doesn't take long. Love it!" --- Marti
"I JUST GOT POISON IVY
AND USED A MIX OF VEG OIL WITH PURIFICATION. WITHIN MINUTES THE HUGE
WELTS (READY TO BLISTER) DISAPPEARED AND ARE COMLETELY GONE TODAY! lOVE
THESE OILS" --- Carol Lavoie,
"My husband used the
Dentarome Ultra and he said that it helped him quite a bit more than the
calamine...though he refused to use it for the first day or 2 of his rash
-- I would think that had he started earlier it may have provided more
relief than it did starting when it had spread so far already..... But
that's just my opinion." --- Marianne
"Peppermint Oil (neat)
works great on poison ivy and dries it up quickly." --- Linda
Motion Sickness:
"I have found that
applying 2-3 drops of undiluted peppermint oil to my forehead and temples
a few minutes before riding in a car keeps my motion sickness symptoms
under control without the drowsiness common to most anti-motion sickness
medications." --- Joy Scheibner
