Stop Canada's Massive Seal Hunt
.

The Cruel Seal Hunt Has Begun

Canada’s annual seal hunt, the largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet, began at dawn on Saturday. Even as you read this, fishermen are clubbing baby seals in the North Atlantic, just to earn a few extra bucks by selling seal skins. Last year, 98.5% of the seals killed were two months of age or younger—and veterinary reports indicate that many seals have been skinned while still conscious and able to feel pain. Our ProtectSeals team is now in Canada, braving the frigid waters to document the hunt and show the world why this unconscionable cruelty must be stopped.

Bree's Healthy Recipe Corner

Apple Cinnamon Training Treats

4 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 egg
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 small apple (grated)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1-1/3 cups of water

Preheat oven to 325. In a bowl combine all ingredients except the apple and water. Grate apple into mixture and add water. Mix until it starts forming together. Turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead well. Roll out to a thickness of 1/4 - inch to 1/2 - inch. Take a straight edge and score the dough horizontally then vertically to make a grid of 3/4 inch squares. Be careful not to score the dough that it completely cuts through the dough. Place on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with a nonstick spray. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Should make about 1-1/2 pounds.

REMEMBER to either refrigerate or freeze all natural treats to avoid spoilage and insect infestation.

Ask Dr. Jane - Overweight Dog and Canine Zone
.

Dear Dr. Jane:  I want to try your Canine Zone for my pudgy dog who needs to lose a few pounds. I’m quite a bit nervous about trying a new weight loss food cause of the bad experiences I’ve had with some of them. Can you tell me a bit about it?

Dr. Jane's Answer:  The Canine Zone is revolutionary. It has one year of clinical studies that demonstrate dogs are not as hungry on the food, they increase their vitality, sparkle in the eyes, etc., they lose 1-2% of their body weight monthly, and their skin and coat becomes optimum. I can understand your fear of trying another food.

Pet Tip - Bumpy Rides
.
One of the most dangerous places for pets is the back of a pickup truck. Pets can be thrown from the truck if the driver has to make a sudden stop or turn, or they can be hit by shifting cargo or flying debris. Dogs and other pets should ride in the cab either in a pet carrier or secured by a pet safety belt.

BARF:  Is Supplementation Really Necessary?

Do I really need to use supplements?

I haven’t cut supplements out totally, although IMO a lot of people tend to over-supplement. This was something Billinghurst suggested too at a recent seminar here, and he mentioned that he only supplements his own dogs every now and again.

Spring Grooming Cuts Down Pet Shedding
Ahh, spring. The trees are budding, the daffodils are blooming … and your pet is shedding. Spring doesn’t have to mean clumps of fur around the house, says Val Penstone, Director of Grooming for Best Friends Pet Resorts and Salons. With a little extra attention to grooming, you can cut down on the mess of shedding and keep your pets’ skin and coat healthy and insect-free.
