Canine and Feline Distemper Symptoms and Natural Home Prevention of Pet Distemper

What is Canine Distemper and what are the symptoms?

Canine distemper is a highly contagious, extremely serious viral disease which occurs in dogs and other wild canids (e.g.. foxes, wolves and coyotes), raccoons, skunks and ferrets.

It is an airborne virus, which affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system of the animal. Puppies between three and six months and elderly animals are particularly at risk.

Bree's Healthy Recipe Corner - Bacon Bites

Bacon Bites

3 cups whole wheat flour (or substitute)
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup bacon fat (or vegetable oil)
1 tsp. garlic powder
3 - 4 slices bacon, crumbled up
1/2 cup cold water

Mix ingredients together thoroughly. Roll out on a floured surface to 1/2 - 1/4″ thickness and cut with cookie cutters or place flattened dough in greased cookie pan and score lightly (not all the way through) with knife to desired size. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown in a 325 degree oven.

REMEMBER to either refrigerate or freeze all natural treats to avoid spoilage and insect infestation.

Holistic Love: Ancient Approaches to the Modern Pet
.

Pets are often the ones that fall through the cracks of our busy days. Each morning we face a mountain of responsibility, and how do our ultra-modern lifestyles affect our ultra-modern pets? Less space to romp around in, truncated time outdoors and less fruitful companionship with busy owners can have myriad physical, emotional and spiritual consequences on our pets.

Ask Dr. Jane - Rimadyl Alternative
.

Dear Dr. Jane:  I’ve read that Rimadyl can harm my pet over time because it’s a steroid. I’m scared to give my dog anymore because I’ve just learned of all the possible side affects. Can you recommend a natural alternative that works, please?

Dr. Jane's Answer:  Absolutely! I’d like to recommend you try our Agility. Agility is safer than steroids and NSAID’s because it is an ALL NATURAL supplement that delivers special nutrients and herbs to the joint, bones sand surrounding tissue. Agility is a safe alternative with no side effects.

Pet Tip - Once-Over Yard Check
.
Give the great outdoors around your home a once-over this spring to check for things you wouldn’t want your pet to get into. Eliminate trash that may have blown into the yard over the winter and remove dead birds, bugs or other critters that may entice a cat or dog. Look for cracks or holes in the fence, as well as loose fence posts, that may permit an unexpected escape.
BARF:  What Supplement is for What?

How do I know what supplement is for what, should I decide to supplement?

B and C vitamins are water soluable, which means whatever the body does not use are eliminated in the urine. You basically cannot “overdo” the vitamins except too much can cause loose bowels (that’s why you often see it recommended to supplement with Vitamin C “to bowel tolerance”). Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluable and it IS possible to cause problems by over-supplementing - sometimes the problems can be as bad if not worse than UNDER supplementation. According to Kymythy Schultze in her book, “The Ultimate Diet”, she states:

Honey We're Killing the Kids!

I am writing today to tell you about a brand new television series on The Learning Channel (TLC). Beginning Monday, April 10 9/8c, TLC will transform the lives of 13 families across the nation in the groundbreaking new series, Honey We’re Killing the Kids! In each family, the children’s eating habits have spiraled out of control into a diet of nonstop junk food – sugar, snacks, processed food– and huge, oversized portions. Coupled with a lack of exercise and sleep, this lifestyle means the kids are not only hyper and unruly; they are at serious risk of becoming overweight and developing high-blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

Huh? I Should Spend More Time in the Sun?
By Robert Bazell, Chief MSNBC Science & Health Correspondent

One of the refrains we hear most often covering the health and science beat is: “You tell me one day something is bad for me and then it is good.” There are many legitimate reasons for this perception, and this story is a fine example.
