Fish Oil Helps Keep
Your Pet Healthy |
 |
|
Fish oil

supplements used in treating dogs and
cats.
In research studies, fish oil has shown
positive benefits in helping pets with
disease. Fatty acids are among the most
commonly used nutritional supplements
used in treating dogs and cats.
Fortunately,
they have been used successfully long
enough that most conventional
veterinarians include their usage in the
treatment of at least some diseases.
Though some pet diets may include
Omega-3 fatty acids, virtually none
include satisfactory amounts of the most
important Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and
DHA.

SassyKat's
Tuna-Pops
Drain liquid from
tuna packed in spring water. Freeze liquid in small
ice cube trays (cocktail ice cube trays work nicely,
as well as little square pill boxes available at
most drug stores - only fill these half full). Give
no more than 2 cubes at 1 time as a treat. Reuse
your can of drained tuna by placing in it an
airtight container and covering with filtered water
overnight for a second batch of tuna-pop water.

Science News:
Hope for Eliminating Allergies to Cats |
 |
|
Spanish researchers report
that allergies to cat dander can be significantly reduced
through the use of sublingual immunotherapy. Creating a
dissolvable allergy pill from an extract of cats’ shed skin
cells, scientists found that nearly two-thirds of
participants in the study demonstrated a much improved
tolerance to the presence of cats. In light of the fact that
there were no adverse reactions to the treatment,
researchers are hopeful that this method of “exposure”
treatment may significantly decrease other allergic
responses.

Dr. Jane - Kidney Stones |
 |
|
Dear
Dr. Jane: I
understand
that miniature schnauzers are prone
to kidney stones. Is there any reason they should
not eat
your food?
Dr.
Jane's Answer: There
was a debate in the veterinary community about these dogs
and if they should be put on specific therapeutic diets
prior to any problems. The answer is no. Animals need the
minerals and the protein in a normal food for maximum and
optimum growth and adult hood. If a problem occurs it is of
course, genetic, and will then be managed by diet.

Pet Tip - Walking in the Dark |
 |
|
Autumn and winter walks can mean dark walks. If
you are walking in the dark, don’t forget to
wear some reflective clothing. Even a reflective
band or sash will help you to be seen. And your
dog can wear one too. A safety blinker is also a
good idea. As the light fades, a safety blinker
will help you to see where your dog is during
your walk and also help to avoid accidents
should they go astray. The autumn and
winter months can be such a lovely time of year
for dog walking. The fresh air and change of
scenery will do everyone good. Enjoy.

Neighborly Advice:
Shepherd in 'Red Zone' |
|
“I own a soon to be 3 year old German
Shepherd her name is Daisy Mae. What a wonderful dog
she is BUT…..she seems to have a bad red zone
sometimes. Let me explain a little about her
behavior…..Does NOT like anyone coming to door… of
course they can when “daddy” is home but if the kids
and I are there…NO WAY!…she seems to have 2
personalities! She is in total protection mode when
we are there…but when my husband is home..she barely
picks her head up to see who it is. She is like 2
totally different dogs! She is not food aggressive
at all. Is not toy protective in fact she loves to
share. Including Daisy, I have a little male Terrier
mix (Madison, 8 ), a male chihuahua (Little Man,
almost 2) and a female Corgi puppy (Lucy, about 5
months old). Now a little more history on Miss
Daisy…

More Quality Time with Pet Parents? |
|
Increasingly, American
businesses are welcoming companion animals into the
workplace. According to a recent survey, nearly 20%
of U.S. businesses are adopting open-door policies
to pet parents and their companion animals. The
importance of this newfound acceptance is evidenced
in the recent phenomenal success of
simplyhired.com,
a job search web site that allows job seekers to
sort results by companies that are pet-friendly! |
