Christmas Without My
Pet - Poem |
 |
|
The tree is all
trimmed.
The gifts are all wrapped.
The hymns are all sung,
Ant the travel plans mapped.
And still there’s a sadness
That lies in your heart,
For a pet that was lost
And a love now apart.
A stocking is missing,
With toys and a treat.
A lap is now empty,
A space at your feet.
Yet remember this
season
God’s small gift to you,
Wonderful memories
To treasure life through.

Animal Welfare - Make
the Holiday Safe for Pets |
 |
|
By following
some simple tips, you can ensure a trouble-free holiday
season for you and your pets.
Holiday Don'ts
• Some common holiday plants are toxic to cats and dogs.
Don’t keep holly, poinsettias, lilies or mistletoe on or
near the floor, where pets have easy access to them.
• If you have a live tree in your home, don’t let pine
needles accumulate on the floor, as these needles can
perforate the intestinal lining of dogs and cats.
Additionally, trees should be tethered to a wall or the
ceiling to prevent them from falling on pets.

Pet Tip - Keeping Rover Warm Outside |
 |
|
Never shave your dog down to the skin in winter,
as a longer coat will provide more warmth. When
you bathe your dog in the colder months, be sure
to completely dry him before taking him out for
a walk. Own a short-haired breed? Consider
getting him a coat or sweater with a high collar
or turtleneck with coverage from the base of the
tail to the belly. For many dogs, this is
regulation winter wear.

Pet Tip - Christmas
Tree Sense |
|
Christmas trees are
beautiful, but require extra attention when you have
a pet. When decorating the tree, hang
breakable and small ornaments or tinsel out of your
dog or cat's reach. Do not place a food gift under
the tree or popcorn garland on the tree, because
your curious pet may claim it. Do not allow your
parrot near the tree. They have been known to bite
into tree light cords and electrocute themselves!
Also, do not put chemicals in the tree water -- they
can be harmful. By covering your tree stand tightly
with skirting, your pet cannot drink the tree water,
which may contain dirt or loose bark. Be sure your
dog or cat has access to plenty of fresh, clean
water in its normal water bowl.

Is Quitting Smoking
one of your New Year's Resolutions? |
|
The Dangers of
Secondhand Smoke to Your Pets
Please, even if you are 'still' a smoker, take the
time to read this article.
There's a bright side at the end of it too, sharing
my own personal experience!
We were all raised to be polite, and to not engage
in behaviors that are offensive to others. If we
smoke, and we are visiting the home of a friend, we
would never dream of lighting up a cigarette without
first asking the people in the room if it would
bother them. Many smokers even extend this courtesy
to visitors in their own homes, refraining from
smoking if a guest is bothered by the smoke.
However, if you’re a smoker who lives with a cat,
dog, or other animal, did it ever occur to you to
wonder what the secondhand smoke from your
cigarettes might be doing to the health of your
beloved pets?
